PRESS RELEASE
Conviction in Rosaryville Double Homicide

Prince George’s County, Maryland…Yesterday, 35 year old Lawrence Covington of the 7600 block of Allendale Circle in Palmer Park, Maryland was convicted of First and Second Degree Murder in the death of Maurice Fountain, 24, and Attempt First and Second Degree Murder in the stabbing of Genea Simms, 21.  The incident occurred at 11000 Snow Court in Rosaryville on March 26, 2009 and involved a dispute over money.  A third victim, LePrince Hall, 51, was also killed.

Homicide detective Thomas Lancaster was the lead investigator in the case and identified and charged Covington with the crimes on April 13, 2009.  “These murders shocked the Rosaryville community due to their brutality and senselessness,” stated Chief of Police Roberto Hylton.  “I am proud of the diligence and professionalism of our homicide unit, especially Detective Tom Lancaster.  We were able to make an arrest in this grisly case within 20 days and provided the State’s Attorney’s Office with the evidence they needed to get a conviction.  Furthermore, I congratulate the State’s Attorney’s Office on their handling of this case, especially prosecutor Michael Glyn.  These cases take a toll both on detectives and prosecutors,” stated Hylton.
