Police Make Quick Arrest in Homicide on Jefferson Street



Prince George’s County, Maryland… The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit arrested 30 year old Jose Manuel Velarde in connection with a homicide that occurred yesterday afternoon on Jefferson Street.

Velarde, of no fixed address, was arrested by PGPD District I patrol officers after they observed him in the 5600 block of River Crossing. He was charged with First Degree Murder and remanded to the Department of Corrections on a no bond status. The details of the homicide are as follows:

On January 21, 2008, at approximately 5:07 p.m., Riverdale Park officers responded to the 5400 block of Jefferson Street for the report of a stabbing. When officers arrived, they discovered an unidentified male with multiple stab wounds to the upper body; he was transported to a local hospital where he died several hours later. PGPD Homicide investigators, who took over the investigation, learned that the suspect stabbed the victim during a dispute.
