On March 5, 2011 at approximately 2:35 p.m., the Maryland-National Capital Park Police received a call regarding discovery of suspected human remains at Marlton Community Park. Patrol officers responded to the 8000 block of Croom Road to investigate, and confirmed the location of the remains in a wooded area of the park. The officers then made notification to the Prince George’s County Homicide Division, which responded and collected the remains for further investigation.
The remains were sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to be analyzed. On June 2, 2011, they were identified through DNA evidence to be the remains of Anthony Jerome Nelson of the 6900 block of Aquamarine Court in Capital Heights, Maryland. Nelson was reported missing by his family on August 16, 2008.
The Prince George’ County Police Department is now conducting a homicide investigation of this case. Detectives are working to identify suspect(s) and establish a motive in this case.
