COUNTY EXECUTIVE’S NOMINEES FOR COMMISSION FOR CHILDREN YOUTH AND FAMILIES AND ENTERPRISE ROAD CORRIDOR DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION CONFIRMED BY COUNCIL

UPPER MARLBORO, MD – Prince George’s County Executive Jack Johnson’s nominees for the Commission for Children Youth and Families and the Enterprise Road Corridor Development Commission were confirmed by the County Council today.

“I am very pleased that these individuals have agreed to serve on these two very important commissions,” Johnson said.  “I am confident that their talents and experience will serve them well as they develop creative ways to tackle unique challenges in Prince George’s County.”

Trevor Liburd, Eileen Thomas, Tiffany Soloman, Margaret Stephens-Aliendre, Rhona Hanson, Norma Hatot, Shirley Jackson and Robert Lee, Jr. were all sworn into the Commission for Children Youth and Families immediately following their confirmation.

The Commission develops priorities, makes policy recommendations and advocates for services for children, youth and families in Prince George’s County.

Liburd, a resident of Oxon Hill, Is an Instructional Specialist with the Montgomery County Public Schools’ Department of Family and Community Partnerships where he works to increase parent engagement in their child’s education.  He Earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Sciences from the University of the Virgin Islands and a Master of Education degree in Educational Psychology from Howard University.  He has earned several State of Maryland Education Certifications in areas including Administration and Early Childhood Education.  He is a member of the Maryland State Teachers’ Association and will serve as a Citizen Member.

A resident of Clinton, Thomas retired in 2006 from the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association after 27 years of service  where she served as a Project Manager where she was responsible for developing, implementing and managing medical management initiatives for federal employee programs.  She earned an Associate of Arts degree in Nursing from Prince George’s Community College and is a Registered Nurse.  She is a member of the Maryland Nurses Association and a volunteer at the Forestville Crisis Pregnancy Center.  She will serve as a Citizen Member.

Soloman, a resident of Lanham, is a senior at DuVal Senior High School in Lanham.  She was elected the 11th grade Class President and also served as the Mock Trial Team Captain last school year.  Currently, she is the Historian for the DuVal Student Government Association.  She will graduate in spring 2010 and hopes to attend Spelman College in Atlanta to major in English and Psychology.  She will serve as the Youth member.

A resident of Mitchellville, Stephens-Aliendre Is an Education Administrator in the District of Columbia Public Schools.  She is being reappointed after serving since 2006.

Hanson, a resident of Accokeek, retired from teaching in the Prince George’s County Public School System in 2008.  She is being reappointed after serving since 2006.

A resident of Mitchellville, Hatot is a Senior Nurse Consultant with the United States Public Health Service.  She is being reappointed after serving since 2006.

Jackson, a resident of Temple Hills, retired at the level of Career Senior Executive after 20 years with the U.S. Department of Education.  She is being reappointed after serving since 2006.

A resident of Upper Marlboro, Lee Is as an Engineering Consultant.  He will serve as the Chairman of the Commission.  He is being reappointed after serving since 2006.

Phyllis Anderson was sworn into the Enterprise Road Corridor Development Commission immediately following her confirmation.  The Commission is responsible for reviewing the impact of new development on the Enterprise Road Corridor and is an advisory body to the Planning Board.

Anderson, a resident of Glenn Dale, is the Assistant Director of Financial Management and Assurance at the U.S. Government Accountability Office.  She is a Certified Public Accountant.  She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Farleigh Dickinson University and a Master of Business Administration degree in Finance from the University of Rochester.  She is active in the community, serving as the Chairman of the Beautification Committee for the Gabriel’s Run Homeowners Association and is a community partner with the Gorgeous Prince George’s Initiative and the Spring Cleanup.
